The Police Force:
The Police force is empowered to deal with counterfeiting matters and acts on complaints filed by individuals. The police also provide assistance in civil raids on counterfeiters.
The Health Department and the Drug Controller General of India has conducted raids to recover fake/counterfeited materials including drugs, antacids, cough syrups, etc.
Food and Drugs Administration (FDA):
The FDA of each State also is empowered to deal with counterfeiting issues and tackle the menace by way of conducting surveys s well as seizure operations.
Role of Trade Bodies, such as FICCI, CII:
CII or Confederation of Indian Industry, recognizing the far-reaching impact and consequences of counterfeiting and piracy, has been driving two major initiatives, viz.
Training & Capacity development programs for enforcement bodies and International Conference on anti-counterfeiting and anti-piracy.
FICCI or the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry has also identified the importance to fight counterfeiters and has begun with the Committee Against Smuggling and
Counterfeiting Activities Destroying the Economy or CASCADE with an agenda to generate and spread awareness on the topic as well as to put the issue high on the social agenda.
Private Sector & Right Owners:
Finally, members of the Private Sector, individuals have come to realize the value of their IP rights and importance to fight counterfeiters.
