National Seminar on Adjudication of IPR Disputes in India: An initiative by Delhi HC

The Hon’ble Delhi High Court is considered to be one of the most IP savvy Court in India and it has time and have passed breakthrough orders and judgments in the field of Intellectual Property Rights.

In addition to above, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Mr. D.N. Patel, in pursuant to the abolition of the Intellectual Property Appellate Tribunal (IPAB), created a committee compromising of Hon’ble Ms. Justice Pratibha M. Singh and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjeev Narula for evaluating how the IPR matters can be handled effectively. Upon the basis of the report of the aforesaid committee, the Delhi High Court being the first High Court in India, established an Intellectual Property Division (IPD), to deal with the IPR matters. The Delhi High Court currently in the process of finalizing the IPD Rules for adjudication of the IPR matters.

This time around, the Delhi High Court has taken an initiative and organized a ‘National Seminar on Adjudication of IPD Disputes in India’ on February 26, 2022 i.e. Saturday.

The Guest of Honor for the seminar will be Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Government of India and the Chief Guest will be Hon’ble Mr. Justice N.V. Ramana, Chief Justice of India.

The Itinerary for the Seminar

The Hon’ble Mr. Justice D.N. Patel, Chief Justice will commence the seminar by giving a Welcome Address, which will be followed by Opening Remarks – ‘Vision of the IPD Division’ by Hon’ble Ms. Justice Prathiba M. Singh, Chairperson, IPD Committee. Thereafter both the Guest of Honor and the Chief Guest will Address the attendees of the seminar. The Vote of Thanks will be given by the Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanejeev Narula, Member, IPD Committee.

Panel Discussion on the topic Adjudication of IPR Disputes will be moderated by Hon’ble Ms. Justice Prathiba M. Singh and the panelists will include the following:

  1. Justice Sonia G. Gokani, Gujarat High Court
  2. Justice Soumen Sen, Calcutta High Court
  3. Justice Gautam S. Patel, Bombay High Court
  4. Justice M. Sundar, Madras High Court
  5. Justice Sanjeev Narula, Delhi High Court.

Post the panel discussion, the attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions from the esteemed Judges.
