Steps taken in CGPDTM premises in order to tackle Covid- 19
Due to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, various government bodies are taking stringent step in order to ensure public safety amidst the outbreak. On March 24, 2020 Indian Government took the much-needed measure and announced a 21 days complete lockdown in the country.
In light of the same, vide a public notice dated March 25, 2020 it has been notified by the Indian IP Office that all the Offices under administrative control of Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM) i.e. the office of CGPDTM will remain closed for a period of 21 days with effect from March 25, 2020.
The notice further mentions that the due dates of times lines as prescribed under different IP Acts and Rules with respect to completion of various acts/activities, filing of any reply/document, payment of fees, etc. regarding any IP shall be the date on which the offices will re-open.
Further, it is also pertinent to mention here that the Hon’ble Supreme Court vide its order dated March 23, 2020 in Writ Petition (Civil) No. 3/2020, took suo motu cognisance of the difficulties faced by litigants due to the rapidly escalating corona virus outbreak (COVID-19). In its judgement the Apex Court increased the period of limitation for petitions, applications, suits, appeals and all other proceedings under the general or special law both under central and/ or state legislations till further orders. It further held that the applicability would be on all the Courts/Tribunals and authorities.
