Patent Office publishes list of applications related to Traditional Knowledge
The Office of Controller General of Patents Designs and Trademarks (CGPDTM) has recently made available the list of Patent Applications related to Traditional Knowledge. The fifty two pages long list delineates the particulars of Application Number, Title, Applicant’s name and Publication data among other details of Seven Hundred and Sixty Five (765) applications.
The intent behind publication of the list is not yet declared by the Patent Office or CGPDTM. However it is pertinent to mention that Section 3 of the Indian Patents Act specifically prohibits the patent of an invention which in effect, is traditional knowledge or which is an aggregation or duplication of known properties of traditionally known component or components.
