Women and Health titled “Empowering Her Health”

SSRANA & Co., attended a thought-provoking event organized by FICCI on Women and Health titled “Empowering Her Health” on October 27, 2023.

The seminar highlighted the relevance of holistic #healthcare for women. It’s not just about treating illness, but much about focusing on preventive care, mental health, and maternal health which contributes to overall wellness. The highlight of the session was the release of a research paper on ‘Empowering Her Health’ prepared by United Nations Women in collaboration with FICCI and Apollo Hospitals.

Dr. @V K Paul, Hon’ble Member, NITI Aayog, Government of India, graced the occasion as the esteemed Guest of Honor. His presence added a special dimension to the occasion. The forum for panel discussion included the distinguished panelist: Ms. Roli Singh, Additional Secretary & DG (CGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India; Ms. Tanuja Nesari, Director, All India Institute of Ayurveda, Ms. Suneela Garg, Chair, Program Advisory Committee NIHFW, Government of Rajasthan; Ms. @Ritu Mahajan, Co-founder & Executive Director, Mahajan Imaging & Labs; Ms. Upasana Arora, Co-Chair, FICCI MVT Committee and Director, Yashoda Super Speciality Hospitals, Ms. Vinita Sethi, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Apollo Hospitals Group, Ms. Amrita Sekhar, Senior Program Officer, Innovative Health Tools, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation who shed light on the need for gender-sensitive healthcare, menstrual and menopause policies, and practices. They rightly emphasized that women often encounter gender bias, stigma, and discrimination when it comes to seeking medical assistance and healthcare facilities, both in urban as well as rural sectors. The session was flawlessly moderated by Ms. Susan Ferguson, Country Representative- India, UN Women.

In addition, Anuradha Gandhi, Managing Associate at S.S. Rana was invited as a keynote speaker, who delved into the crucial aspect of our legal landscape. She captivated the attendees with her discussion on a recent landmark ruling passed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court in the case of X vs. Union of India and Anr (2023), wherein a woman’s plea for the termination of her pregnancy was declined. The topic at hand has sparked extensive debates and diverse viewpoints within the public sphere. This legal decision has become a focal point of discussions, igniting conversations that extend far beyond the courtroom about reproductive rights, and women’s bodily autonomy, irrespective of societal constraints and the legal intricacies that surround such complex issues.
