Request for Examination – Mandatory Step
Under the Indian Patent Act, 1970, a patent application will not be examined automatically. Examination is conducted only after filing a Request for Examination (RFE) within 48 months from the priority date or filing date, whichever is earlier. Missing this deadline may lead to abandonment of the application.

Early Publication of Patent Application
