The Indian Trademarks Registry during the month of March and April 2016 had dispatched a total of 13,062 examination reports containing objections under sections 9 (Absolute Grounds for Refusal of Registration), 11 (Relative Grounds for Refusal of Registration) and other relevant sections of the Trademarks Act, 1999. But, according to a notice dated July 11, 2016, a copy of which can be found overhere, the Registry is yet to receive any reply/communication from the applicants/authorized agents in 9,578 of these applications even after the expiry of more than 30 days from the date of dispatch of the said Examination Reports. To avoid the event of parties being adversely affected by any action of the Registry in haste, the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks has provided an opportunity till July 31, 2016 to the parties and their agents to send a scanned copy of the reply to the examination report. According to the notice, the soft copy has to be sent at parm.tmr@nic.in, failing which all such applications will be treated as abandoned.
