The Centre for Media and Mass Communication Studies, Jamia Hamdard University, under the patronship of Janab Hammad Ahmed Sb. (Hon’ble Chancellor), Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Reshma Nasreen, Director CMMCS is conducting a series of sessions titled, “Media Matters: An Exclusive Thought Leadership series” curated by Prof. (Dr.) Farhat Basir Khan, Author & Innovator | Professor of Media, Comm, Design & Innovation.
Mr. Vikrant Rana, Managing Partner at S.S. Rana & Co., was invited as a distinguished speaker for a session falling under the Media Matters series at the University on January 29, 2026.
In his session, Mr. Rana provided students with a comprehensive overview of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), beginning with the fundamentals of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks. He then delved into the nuanced world of Copyright law, covering:
- Limitations of using copyrighted works on social media and music platforms
- Infringement vs. Fair Use, explained through practical case laws
- Real-world challenges faced by creators in protecting their works
- Performers’ Rights and their growing relevance in the digital age
The session was not only informative but also highly interactive, with students engaging in a lively Q&A that reflected their curiosity and eagerness to understand the evolving landscape of media and intellectual property.
