We are proud to announce the launch of our latest publication:
Design (IP) as a Business Asset: Monetisation, Licensing and Valuation of Design Intellectual Property in India
This publication was launched at the World Design, Innovation & Intellectual Property Conference 2026, themed Design & IP: Powering Innovation & Economic Growth, held on 29th April 2026, on the occasion of both World IP Day and World Design Day, in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Design IP has long been an underutilised lever in business strategy. While trademarks and patents attract significant attention, the commercial potential embedded in design rights, through licensing, monetisation, and structured valuation, remains largely untapped by businesses and creators alike.
This publication seeks to change that.
It offers a comprehensive look at how design intellectual property can be recognised, registered, and leveraged as a genuine business asset in the Indian context. From the legal framework governing design protection to practical frameworks for licensing and valuation, the publication is intended as a resource for businesses, legal practitioners, innovators, and policymakers navigating the intersection of creativity and commerce.
At S.S. Rana & Co., we have always believed that intellectual property is not merely a legal formality. It is a strategic foundation for sustainable business growth. This publication is a reflection of that belief, and our commitment to advancing IP awareness and practice in India.
A note of sincere gratitude.

This publication would not have been possible without the support, expertise, and encouragement of many.
We are deeply grateful to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for their invaluable partnership in conceptualising and producing this work. Their institutional framework, industry access, and policy perspective gave this publication its breadth and direction.
We extend our special thanks to Dr. Udayant Malhotra, Chairman, CII National Committee on Design, whose leadership and vision were instrumental in bringing this publication to life, we also extend our sincere thanks to Mr. Raghvendra Saha, Senior Advisor; Ms. Nabanita Mukherjee, Director; and Mr. Rajarshi Bhowal, Associate Counsellor, IPR, whose collective inputs were integral to the development of this study.
