The session brought together business leaders, policy experts, and IP professionals to discuss the evolving Intellectual Property landscape in India and the growing importance of strategic IP protection, cross-border collaboration, and policy alignment for international businesses.

The event commenced with insightful remarks by Ms. Devyani, Trade Facilitation Officer, and Ms. Vrinda Saran Mathur, Consultant – Legal & Policy Advocacy at FEBI. They shared valuable perspectives on the functioning of FEBI, India–Spain trade relations, and the evolving EU–India Free Trade Agreement, with a particular focus on the Intellectual Property chapter of the FTA and its implications for cross-border business, innovation, and regulatory alignment.

Adding an international perspective to the discussion, Mr. Poul V. Jensen, India Representative of the India IP SME Helpdesk (an initiative of the European Commission), highlighted the importance of strengthening IP awareness and support mechanisms for SMEs operating in cross-border markets, with special emphasis on opportunities and challenges in the Spanish market and broader EU–India business engagement.

Representing S.S. Rana & Co., Mr. Vikrant Rana, Managing Partner, shared strategic insights on protecting intellectual assets in India and emphasized the importance of robust IP strategies, enforcement frameworks, and proactive brand protection in today’s competitive global business environment.

Mr. Rupin Chopra, Associate Partner, discussed the commercial dimensions of Intellectual Property, including IP transactions, licensing structures, technology transfer arrangements, and IP-driven collaborations that enable businesses to effectively commercialize innovation.

Further, Mr. Nihit Nagpal, Associate Partner, elaborated on IP dispute resolution mechanisms in India, sharing practical perspectives on enforcement strategies, anti-counterfeiting actions, and effective dispute management for businesses. He also emphasized the importance of proactive legal approaches to safeguarding intellectual property rights in an increasingly complex commercial environment.
