World Environment Day is an international awareness campaign initialed by the United Nations. It’s been celebrated since 1974 with various projects across the world to address environmental problems!
Every year World Environment Day has a host country and a theme. The previous host’s go from Brazil to Milan with themes like WildforLife (for wildlife conservation) and Raise Your Voice Not the Sea Level. This year it’s being hosted in India and the theme is Beat Plastic pollution. The slogan for this year is “Beat Plastic Pollution”, and spread awareness of the consequences of disposables and the alternatives to them “if you can’t reuse it, refuse it”
Indian celebrities are strongly supporting the campaign
#BeatPlasticPollution on social media. The Indian government has also taken forward the initiative by making a song on the theme which can be heard on
SSRANA & Co.’s Green Policy Committee have always been committed to adopt policies that are environment friendly so as to protect and conserve our vulnerable natural resources. We always endeavor to implement eco-friendly measures in our office, as well as surroundings so as to bring down unnecessary wastage and minimize the risks such as ozone depletion, greenhouse effect, global climate changes and/or global warming.
Taking inspiration from this year’s theme, we celebrated World Environment Day, first by wearing Green (the official color of the attire for the Day!!) and taking some time out to planted sapling in and around our office. Everyone then had refreshing natural coconut water served just as nature meant it to be.
The day became even better as news broke out that Chile is set to become the first nation in the Americas to ban retail businesses from using plastic bags, an initiative aimed at protecting the country’s 4,000-mile coastline. Almost 80 municipal governments around the country have already adopted restrictions over the past few years, while some beach and lakeside communities have outright bans.
On this environment day, along with SSRANA & Co., let us all take a pledge to #BeatPlasticPollution Refuse single use plastic, Refuse what you can’t re-use. As we move forward with this resolve, we make initial beginnings by refusing packaged drinks, instead served refreshing natural coconut water as nature meant it to be.
Believing in practice before you preach, we resolve to stop single use plastic for water bottles being used in our office. Instead we will be serving RO water in glass bottles.
As every step counts, let’s continue in our resolve.
