Gautam Buddha University (GBU) hosted an expert workshop on “Role and Importance of Intellectual Property Awareness in contemporary Education and Research” as an initiative by the Institution Innovation Council, Ministry of Education aimed at giving new direction to education and research by raising awareness about the legal and practical importance of IP among students, researchers, and faculty. An insightful lecture was delivered by the expert Ms. Sangeeta Nagar, Senior Scientist at SS Rana & Co., who emphasized the crucial role of innovation and design thinking in today’s knowledge-driven world and explained the practical aspects of design registration in India including what constitutes novelty and originality. She explained how design patents and other intellectual property tools can convert innovations into commercially viable assets.
She further highlighted that effective IP protection not only strengthens individual innovation but also plays an important role in enhancing India’s economic standing within the global innovation ecosystem. The workshop provided a deep understanding of a legal, strategic, and practical aspects of IP in today’s era, including the guidance on patents filing, design protection and technology transfer.
