New Patent Examiners appointed by Indian Patent Office.

December 30, 2011

The Indian Patent Office has announced appointment and posting orders of 94 successful candidates qualified as Examiners of Patents and Designs. The rest of the candidates who had cleared the written examination and viva voce, which are about 150, would receive their appointments and posting orders once the police verification receipt and medical examination reports are received by the Patent Office. It is to be noted that last year the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) had taken initiatives to fill the 257 posts of Patent Examiners. The examination for the same was conducted by DIPP on January 2, 2011.

The candidates in the current appointment list are required to undergo three month training at National Institute for Intellectual Property Management (NIIPM) at Nagpur to learn about the skills of the trade. The recruitment and appointment of new examiners is expected to bring down the huge pendency and backlog of patent applications.
