The WTR 1000: The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals is published annually by World Trademark Review (WTR). It is the only standalone directory devoted exclusively to trademark practice, and its 2026 edition covers more than 80 country and US state chapters. Vikrant Rana joined S.S. Rana & Co. in 1996 and now leads the firm as Managing Partner. His practice covers the full trademark life cycle in India, from clearance and prosecution through opposition to enforcement, and he advises Fortune 500 and multinational companies as well as grassroots innovators on contentious and non-contentious trademark matters.

Building and maintaining rights – His non-contentious work includes clearance searches, prosecuting applications, securing registrations, maintaining rights and making sure they remain enforceable. He also drafts and negotiates licensing agreements that govern the authorised use of IP, and advises on portfolio management, IP audits and valuation across trademarks, copyright, patents, designs and geographical indications.

Enforcement and dispute resolution – On the contentious side, he protects clients’ rights through surveillance, cease-and-desist action, mediation, injunctions and litigation against infringers.

Domain name disputes – He has served as an arbitrator with the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), adjudicating domain name disputes.

Background – He is an alumnus of Delhi University and works in English, Hindi and Punjabi. Outside the law, he is an avid sportsman and an enthusiastic runner who has taken part in more than 12 half-marathons, and he is a certified yoga teacher.
