The summit is organised by the CII Centre of Excellence for Competitiveness for SMEs, part of the Confederation of Indian Industry.
About the CII National Competitiveness & Cluster Summit
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is one of India’s largest industry associations. Its Centre of Excellence for Competitiveness for SMEs works with micro, small and medium enterprises to improve their productivity, quality, innovation and competitiveness, including through its cluster approach, in which groups of enterprises work together and share knowledge.
Who takes part: The two-day summit, now in its 18th edition, brings together companies from across sectors, from MSMEs to large enterprises in manufacturing, automotive, energy, engineering and services.
How awards are decided: Participating organisations present case studies of their improvement work. In 2025, companies presented case studies across 11 categories.
The format: Recognition is awarded at different levels, with Platinum at the top. Categories are split by sector and size, including a separate category for MSMEs in services.
What the award recognises
A Platinum Award in the MSME Service category recognises the way S.S. Rana & Co. runs its practice as a business:
Process discipline: The firm applies the same principles that CII promotes in manufacturing, measured processes, quality control and continuous improvement, to how legal work is organised and delivered.
Certified systems: Its processes are certified to ISO 9001:2015 for quality management and ISO 27001:2013 for information security management.
Technology in delivery: The firm runs a proprietary legal workflow system, IMS, which automates non-legal tasks, applies AI and machine learning to trademark searches and gives clients real-time reporting.

Who counts as an MSME in India
The MSME classification decides which businesses can access government schemes, priority-sector lending and protections such as delayed-payment rules. From 1 April 2025, the thresholds under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 are:

The same thresholds apply to manufacturing and services enterprises, and businesses register through the Udyam portal. Registered micro and small enterprises can also rely on the Act’s delayed-payment provisions, which require buyers to pay within the agreed period, not exceeding 45 days, charge compound interest on late payments, and allow the supplier to take the dispute to the Micro and Small Enterprises Facilitation Council.

Both manufacturing and services enterprises are covered, and registration is through the Udyam portal.
