IAM has ranked Vikrant Rana, Managing Partner of S.S. Rana & Co., as Highly Recommended for Individuals: prosecution in India in the IAM Patent 1000 2025. In the same edition, Associate Partners Renu Bala Rampal and Johny Solomon Raj joined the guide for the first time.

About the IAM Patent 1000
IAM is a specialist publication on IP as a business asset. Its Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Professionals identifies leading private practice patent firms and individuals across dozens of jurisdictions each year.
Who qualifies. IAM assesses private practice practitioners on their patent work and market reputation, drawing on the views of peers and clients with direct knowledge of their practice.
How individuals are chosen. IAM’s research team conducts interviews with private practice lawyers, patent attorneys and in-house counsel, and analyses them alongside written submissions and client feedback.
The format. Ranked individuals are grouped in tiers, and in India IAM publishes separate rankings for prosecution and litigation. Vikrant is ranked for prosecution.
What the ranking recognises
In its 2025 commentary, IAM points to the following:
A full-service firm. IAM describes S.S. Rana & Co. as a renowned full-service law firm, widely recognised for its legal services.
Leadership of the patent practice. Under Vikrant’s leadership, IAM says, the practice excels across a comprehensive range of patent services.
Support for start-ups. IAM highlights his expertise and his active role as an IP facilitator under the Government of India’s Start-ups Intellectual Property Protection (SIPP) scheme as strengthening the firm’s position in IP.
A growing bench. IAM welcomes Renu Bala Rampal, who heads the patents team and works across a wide range of technologies for clients in India and abroad, and Johny Solomon Raj, whose knowledge and dedication strengthen the patent practice.
Patent prosecution in India in 2025
Patent applicants in India are working under the Patents (Amendment) Rules, 2024, notified on 15 March 2024. For applications filed on or after that date, examination must be requested within 31 months of the priority or filing date rather than 48. The Rules also tie the Form 3 statement on foreign filings to the First Examination Report, move the Form 27 working statement to once every three financial years, and introduce a certificate of inventorship. The firm’s patent team has set out these changes in its analysis of the 2024 Rules.
For start-ups, the SIPP scheme continues to lower the barriers: registered facilitators help eligible start-ups file and prosecute patents, trademarks and designs, and the government pays the facilitators’ professional fees.
