About the Legal Era Awards
Legal Era is a legal media group with offices in New Delhi and Mumbai. Its annual Indian Legal Awards, now in their 15th edition, recognise law firms, in-house legal teams and individual lawyers across practice areas, industry sectors and Indian cities.
Who qualifies. Firms and legal teams enter by making a submission during the entry window. For the 2025-26 awards, submissions opened on 15 November 2025 and closed on 23 February 2026.
How finalists and winners are chosen. Legal Era released its nominees list in March 2026, and winners were declared on 25 April 2026. The jury is chaired by Justice B. N. Srikrishna, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, and Justice Dipak Misra, former Chief Justice of India, and its members include other former Supreme Court judges, senior advocates and general counsel of leading Indian companies.
The format. Each category has a shortlist of finalists, from which a winner is chosen. IP is covered by three separate firm categories in 2025-26: Intellectual Property Law Firm of the Year, IP Litigation Law Firm of the Year and IP Prosecution Law Firm of the Year.
What the shortlisting recognises
Intellectual Property Law Firm of the Year is the broadest of the IP categories, looking at a firm’s IP practice as a whole rather than at prosecution or litigation alone. At S.S. Rana & Co., that practice covers:
Protection. Searches, clearance, drafting, filing and prosecution of patents, trademarks, designs, copyright and geographical indications in India, across the SAARC region and, through associates, in other major jurisdictions.
Enforcement and litigation. Infringement and passing off suits, oppositions and rectifications, action against counterfeiting, customs recordals and domain name disputes, before courts and tribunals across India, including the High Court of Delhi and the Bombay High Court.
Advisory and transactions. IP licensing, assignment, technology transfer and IP due diligence for Indian companies, start-ups and multinational corporations doing business in India.
