IBLJ Law Firm Awards 2026: Pro Bono

India Business Law Journal (IBLJ) has named S.S. Rana & Co. an award-winning law firm for Pro Bono in the IBLJ Law Firm Awards 2026, published on 29 June 2026. In the same edition, the firm also won the award for Intellectual Property Enforcement, recognising its work on both public-interest matters and contested IP disputes.

About the IBLJ Law Firm Awards

India Business Law Journal is a publication covering business law in India, available online through Law.asia. Its Law Firm Awards have been presented every year since 2009 and recognise Indian law firms across practice areas and industry sectors.

Who qualifies. All Indian law firms are automatically eligible. IBLJ states that there are no entry fees or other obligations, and no awards dinner that winners have to pay to attend.

How winners are chosen. IBLJ judges the awards on nominations from in-house counsel and other qualified observers in India and abroad, submissions from candidate firms, reference checks with law firm clients and background research by its editorial team. Lawyers at Indian law firms cannot nominate, although their firms can make submissions.

The format. The awards are not a ranking. IBLJ names a group of winners in each category, with seven winners in most categories in 2026, and splits some categories into separate sections for firms with up to 100 lawyers and firms with more than 100.

What the award recognises

The Pro Bono category recognises law firms for legal work carried out for the public good, free of charge or at reduced fees. At S.S. Rana & Co., much of that work sits close to the firm’s intellectual property practice.

Grassroots innovators and small businesses. The firm supports grassroots innovators and small and medium enterprises in protecting and commercialising their IP, including inventions that come out of rural industries in India.

Start-ups under the SIPP scheme. Managing Partner Vikrant Rana is a registered IP facilitator under the Government of India’s Start-ups Intellectual Property Protection (SIPP) scheme, in place since 2016. According to IAM’s firm profile, he has guided more than 350 start-ups and grassroots innovators through filing, prosecution and enforcement of their patent rights.

IP4Kids. The firm’s IP4Kids programme introduces school and college students to IP rights through resources, games, comics and competitions, including essay, poster-making and slogan-writing events held through the year.

IP awareness. The firm organises and contributes to seminars and conferences on IP rights for businesses, institutions and academia across India.
