Design Law in Bangladesh

Process of design registration:

1. Application: Application for the Registration of the Design Registration in Bangladesh is filed under Rule 35(1);
2. Examination: From the date of filing an application for Industrial Design Application generally it takes about 9 months to complete the examination process;
3. Certificate: After examination when it is decided in favour of the application for the registration of a design application in Bangladesh the Registrar is obliged to issue a certificate of registration for the design in Bangladesh.

Required Documents:

1. Name and Address of the applicant:
2. Have to mention the materials by which the product/Goods consists of i.e. wood or plastic or iron etc.
3.  Statement of novelty
4. Four sets of 3D pictures of the products from 4 sides.
5. Original POA: An original copy of the POA must be filed within one month.
6. Original affidavit must be filed within one month. Certified copy of the priority documents: Verified/ notarized
7. English translation of the priority document if the priority document is in any language other than English.

Time Frame:

The registration of industrial design is valid for 5 years from the date of application. The period may be extended by two further periods each of 5 years on application before the expiry of the copyright.
