Maldives does not have any specific Industrial Design law or Intellectual Property Office therefore Design Protection is by way of Common law. The said protection is sought by publication of cautionary notice in a leading Newspaper in Maldives, under common laws of “passing off”. This serves as a notice to public that said Design belongs to someone and if required, a passing off remedy shall be exercised in a court.
