Process of design registration:
- The convention priority to be claimed in Jordan is 6 months from the filing date of the earlier application
- Examination: (in terms of form and novelty)
- The application is examined in terms of form completing all supporting documents with the patent office.
- The novelty is needed for filing a design application in Jordan.
- Once an application is accepted, the application will be passed for publication after payment the prescribed acceptance and publication fees
- Acceptance will be published in the official gazette for third party’s opposition within 30 days.
- In the absence of oppositions within 30 days from the date of the publication, the certificate of registration will be issued after payment the prescribed registration fees then the registration certificate will be issued.
- Design is protected for a period of (15) years, and this period cannot be renewed.
Required Documents:
- Power of Attorney duly legalized up to the Jordanian Consulate.
- Declaration under oath from the designer, duly legalized up to the Jordanian Consulate.
- Extract from the Commercial Register or Articles of Incorporation, or any equivalent document duly legalized up to the Jordanian Consulate.
- Certified copy of the priority document, if priority is claimed
- Filing Particulars of Applicants / designers, their Addresses & Nationalities.
- Brief description of the design pointing out the novel aspects thereof.
- Representations of the design.
- The class (es) in which the design is to be registered.
Time Frame:
The approximate time frame for obtaining the design registration certificate is 10-14 months, in the normal course of events
