Design registration in Tunisia

  1. Filing the Design application;
  2. Examination phase: Tunisia is a member of the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs. Designs and industrial models are protected through registration with the competent authority; the Institut National de la Normalisation et de la Propriete Industrielle (INNORPI). Such registration is effected without novelty examination at the applicant’s responsibility.
  3. Acceptance.

Please note that in order to renew design registrations, no annuity fees shall be paid, A design or an industrial model registration is granted for 5, 10 or 15 years starting from the date of filing the application. A registrant for the shorter terms has the option of applying for the extension of the protection period by the maximum duration of 15 years.

Required Documents:

  1. A simply signed and stamped Power of Attorney;
  2. Four representations (photocopies, photographs, or drawings) of the design;
  3. Four ordinary copies of the inscription (if necessary);
  4. Payment of fees according to the period of validity applied for, and the convention priorities.

Time Frame:

The expected timeframe for a design to be registered is 10-12 months from the filing date.

Multiple Designs:

It is possible. Please note that it is possible to file multiple designs up to 50 designs at the same application provided that the designs belong to the same Locarno class, in other words that they pertain to the same type of goods.
