Design registration in Congo

  1. Filing Application;
  2. Formal Examination: verify if the filing could be declared admissible;
  3. Registration and Issuance of the certificate of registration;
  4. Publication of the duly registered design..

Required Documents:

  1. Applicant data (including the names or trade names and addresses of the holder, the author and, as the case may be, the agent);
  2. Power of Attorney (simply signed);
  3. Assignment document (if applicable) legalized by the Congolese consulate;
  4. Graphical representation (including two identical copies of a specimen or photographic or graphic representation of the claimed object, possibly accompanied by an explanatory caption);
  5. Copy of the Priority document (if applicable) certified, with verified French translation.
  6. Proof of payment of the fees due at the time of filing per object filed and, if applicable, the renewal fee.

Time Frame:

The expected timeframe for a design to be registered is 3 to 6 months from the filing date.

Multiple Designs:

Multiple design applications are possible in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The same filing can include from 1 to 50 industrial designs numbered from first to last.
